Konstantine Boukhvalov, MGPS Human Language Technology (HLT) Director, Eileen Block HLT Engagement Manager and Mark Overton, Engagement Manager convened with over 150 experts at the Association for Machine Translation in the Americas (AMTA) Conference in Orlando, FL, 12 – 16 September 2022 to address emerging trends, technology, and opportunities in HLT, especially regarding machine language research, speech-to-speech translation, terminology management, and speech-to-text translation.

Our AMTA attendees collaborated with key personnel from government, university research centers, private sector, federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs). Leading experts and keynote presenters contend that the global English language market is shrinking; the number of words translated by MT is growing exponentially (800+ billion in 2021), and only an estimated 10% of all translated content is being completed by MT systems despite increased demand. Greater use of HLT is the only sustainable and viable solution for many, given the vast volume of data that needs to be translated and prohibitive cost to process all content without some level of automation.

MGPS is a leading provider of these solutions to government and commercial customers. See our HLT offerings for more information. Our HLT Director moderated two sessions on Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and has been a featured speaker at past events. NMT was a key focus of the event given the transition away from statistical MT.
